Months later the Ukraine-based University kept to their words bestowing the honorary degree on the star. But why exactly was he honored? Find out below.
Asamoah Gyan’s Doctorate Degree
The honorary Ph.D. was conferred on Asamoah Gyan at the Faculty of Law of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on 8th July 2017. This means that the footballer can now be addressed as Dr. Asamoah Gyan. He now ranks with previously honored high profile Ghanaians such as President Akuffo-Addo, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, and Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh. On top of this, the Black Stars captain was in line to be awarded the Honorary Personality of Exemplary Leadership by the same university. Why Was He Honored? Gyan was chosen by the reputable university because of his impressive services at the senior national team. The player who has scored enviable success with the Black Stars was picked at the heels of his landmark feat of reaching 50 goals for the Ghana national team. Currently, the Ghanian player is the team’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals since starting his career in 2003. In addition to being Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Gyan is also known as Africa’s Highest World Cup scorer for his excellent displays during the international matches. One of Gyan’s latest give-back-to-the-society projects includes the construction of an Astroturf pitch for his alma mater, Accra Academy Senior High School.
The 31-year-old’s outstanding success in his career, as well as his various contributions to the society, have therefore been duly recognized by the Alfred Nobel University. He was accompanied by representatives from Alfred Nobel University to the school on June 15, 2017, to inspect the progress of the almost completed pitch construction. His Success Story Asamoah Gyan started his career playing at Ghanaian club Liberty Professionals, a football club based in Accra. He met success after a remarkable display during FIFA World Cup matches. Since then, he has been climbing the ladder of fame with different international deals including playing for an Italian club and then drawing the attention of a Russian club known as Lokomotiv Moscow. Gyan has also played for a French club and for the premier league’s Sunderland. Other clubs he has spent some time include the United Arab Emirates’ Al Ain FC as well as Chinese club, Shanghai SIPG. Currently, he is well known as the Ghanian National Team Captain and also as a striker for Kayserispor, a Turkish professional football club in Kayseri, Turkey. This has made Gyan one of the richest African footballers. Other Honours Apart from his University Honorary Doctorate Degree, Gyan has also received various football honors both as a member of a team and independently. Some of his individual honors include winning the 2010 BBC African Footballer of the Year. He has also been thrice listed among the CAF team of the Year. Apart from that, Gyan was named the UAE Pro League Top Scorer for three seasons in a row starting from 2011 to 2014. The high-paid star has also been honored as AFC Champions League Top Scorer and Foreign Player of the Year 2014.
